Casework Team

The casework team are experienced practitioners who are here to provide help and support to our members.

Meet our Acting (ISVA) Manager of Support Services, Bethan!

NUM’s caseworkers are a small, diverse team with a wide range of qualifications, skills and experience. We all have different areas of specialist knowledge relating to sex work. This ranges from street and online-facilitated sex work to camming and adult film, as well experience in different settings such as criminal justice, policing, and sexual violence support. As such the team is focused on providing personal, emotional, and practical support to improve safety and working practices (in person and online) as well as all aspects of health and wellbeing. We help sex workers who are victims of crime and harm to access the resources that they need for healing, justice and safety on their terms.
As a team we come together to form what we hope is a responsive, flexible, dynamic and effective team committed to ending all forms of violence against sex workers.

What we do with reports

When the casework team receive a report from an individual member, an organisation or the police, this is triaged by the team. With the consent of the reporter, the team create an alert that goes out to NUM members and others in the sex working community. This alert brings information about incidents of harm and individuals that pose a risk, which enables community members to make informed decisions about their safety when working.

We will also ask individual members if they consent to share details about the perpetrator and the reported incident with police for intelligence purposes. This is called anonymous consent because we will not share any personal information relating to reporter.

If you want to make a full report to police about the incident, we can negotiate and mediate this process with specialist contacts within each police force. We hope to ensure that the response is knowledgeable, sensitive and appropriate, and that your rights as a victim are upheld.

Everyone who submits a report to NUM will be contacted by one of the team, offered help, support and advice. There is no expectation to make a report when you speak to us. If you don’t want to make a report or you are unsure whether you want to, you can still speak to one of the team who will be happy to help you talk through your options.

If you would like to find out more about our report process, have a look at our NUM Tools and How To Use Them.
